Neocaridina davidi, commonly called the cherry shrimp, is a species of freshwater shrimp in the family Atyidae, native to Taiwan, eastern China, the Korean Peninsula and Vietnam, where it lives in lakes, ponds, rivers and streams. Wild individuals are mottled brown, but selective breeding for the aquarium trade has produced color morphs including red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet, white and clear, with the red form especially popular. It reaches maturity in about 30 days, grows to three to four centimeters, and typically lives one to two years, and released aquarium specimens have established invasive populations in thermally polluted waters in Japan, the United States, Poland and Germany.
