Coccinellidae

Coccinellidae is a family of beetles in the order Coleoptera commonly known as ladybugs in North America and ladybirds elsewhere. Described by Pierre Andre Latreille in 1807, the family contains more than 6,000 described species found on every continent except Antarctica. Most species are oval and domed with warning coloration such as red with black spots, and most are predators of aphids and scale insects, though some introduced species have become invasive.
