Insect Genera

The genus-rank taxa of the class Insecta, the six-legged arthropods with a body divided into head, thorax and abdomen. Covers every genus-rank taxon entity in this atlas identified by its own sourced description as an insect genus under the standard entomological classification ITIS and the Catalogue of Life both follow, spanning the honey bees of Apis, the carpenter bees of Xylocopa, the malaria-carrying mosquitoes of Anopheles and Aedes, the longhorn beetles of Anoplophora, and the butterfly and moth genera of Lepidoptera such as Apatura and Argynnis. Excludes every other arthropod class, such as the arachnids, the horseshoe crabs, the extinct eurypterids and the crustaceans, which are grouped under Other Invertebrate Genera instead, and excludes any genus whose common name only resembles an insect (a name containing "butterfly" or "moth" is not enough on its own).
