Tomato Hornworm is the caterpillar of the five-spotted hawkmoth, Manduca quinquemaculata, a brown and gray hawk moth in the family Sphingidae. The caterpillar can be a major garden pest, taking its name from a dark projection on its posterior end and its use of tomato plants as a host, and it is closely related to the tobacco hornworm Manduca sexta, with which it is often confused since both feed on plants of the family Solanaceae.
