Mature trees vary considerably in height, from about 10 to 40 meters. The IUCN Red List classifies it as Vulnerable, citing fragmentation of populations and habitat degradation mainly caused by mining activity; genetic research suggests the closely related Araucaria laubenfelsii may not be a fully distinct species.
