Potter wasps are a group of solitary wasps, generally classified as the subfamily Eumeninae within the family Vespidae, named for the small, jug-shaped mud nests that many species build to house their eggs. Unlike the social paper wasps, potter wasps live and hunt alone, provisioning each nest cell with paralyzed caterpillars or other insect larvae as food for their own larva before sealing it shut.
