Covers every genus-rank taxon entity in this atlas identified by its own sourced description as a mammalian genus under the standard mammalian classification (Wilson and Reeder's Mammal Species of the World, the scheme ITIS and the Catalogue of Life both follow), from the big cats of Panthera and the true foxes of Vulpes through the elephants of Loxodonta and Elephas, the great apes of Pongo, the rorqual whales of Balaenoptera, and the many rodent, primate, carnivoran and marsupial genera catalogued elsewhere in the atlas. A member is placed here by its own sourced description identifying it as a mammalian genus, never by name pattern alone. Excludes every genus of bird, reptile, amphibian, fish, insect, other invertebrate, plant, fungus or microorganism, each grouped under its own sibling subcategory.
