The taxonomic orders of the class Mammalia, the vertebrates whose females produce milk and whose bodies are typically covered in hair or fur. Covers every order-rank taxon entity in this atlas whose ordinal name designates a subdivision of Mammalia under the standard mammalian classification (Wilson and Reeder's Mammal Species of the World, the scheme ITIS and the Catalogue of Life both follow), from Primates and Carnivora through the marsupial orders such as Diprotodontia and Dasyuromorphia and the monotreme order Monotremata, and including the two finer mammalian subdivisions this atlas also carries at order rank, the Old World monkey and ape lineage Catarrhini and the toothed whale lineage Odontoceti. A member is placed here by its own sourced description identifying it as a mammalian order, never by name pattern alone. Excludes every order of bird, reptile, amphibian, fish, insect, other invertebrate, plant, fungus or microorganism, each grouped under its own sibling subcategory.
