Siamese Fighting Fish (Betta splendens)

Siamese Fighting Fish, commonly called the Siamese fighter or betta, is a freshwater fish native to mainland Southeast Asia, including Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam. It is one of more than 70 species in the genus Betta but the only one commonly called betta, owing to its global popularity as a pet, and Betta splendens ranks among the most popular aquarium fish in the world for its diverse, colorful appearance and relatively low maintenance.
