Tamarack

Tamarack, Larix laricina, is a deciduous conifer of the family Pinaceae native across northern North America, from Alaska and Canada south into the northern United States, one of the most cold-hardy trees on the continent and among the few conifers found growing at the northern edge of the treeline. Its soft, needle-like leaves grow in dense clusters on short spur shoots and turn a vivid gold before dropping each autumn, and it commonly grows in wet bogs and swamps alongside black spruce.
