The Colorado potato beetle is a beetle known for being a major pest of potato crops, about 10 millimeters long, with a bright yellow or orange body marked by five bold brown stripes along the length of each wing. Native to the Rocky Mountains, it spread rapidly through potato crops across the United States and then Europe beginning in 1859.
