Hornworts are a group of non-vascular plants constituting the division Anthocerotophyta, named for the elongated horn-like structure that is their sporophyte. Like mosses and liverworts, hornworts have a life cycle dominated by the gametophyte stage, the flattened green plant body in which cells carry only a single set of genetic information.
