Bambusa

Bambusa is a large genus of clumping bamboos, family Poaceae, with Plants of the World Online recognizing 151 species as of December 2025, the type species being Bambusa bambos. Native to Southeast Asia, South Asia, China, Taiwan, the Himalayas, New Guinea, Melanesia and the Northern Territory of Australia, the genus has also naturalized in Africa, the Americas and various oceanic islands. Most species are rather large, forming dense clumps with numerous branches emerging from the nodes, and branches can potentially reach 11 meters in length; several species are cultivated widely for construction material, edible shoots and ornamental use.
