Prosymnidae is a family of elapoid snakes containing a single genus, Prosymna, with 18 recognized species, commonly called shovel-snout snakes. It was formerly treated as a subfamily of Lamprophiidae before molecular research established it as its own family. The genus is endemic to sub-Saharan Africa. Members are small, terrestrial snakes, as shown by hatchlings such as those of Prosymna stuhlmanni.
