Psammophiidae

Psammophiidae is a family of elapoid snakes containing eight genera: Dipsina, Hemirhagerrhis, Kladirostratus, Malpolon, Mimophis, Psammophis, Psammophylax and Rhamphiophis. It was formerly treated as a subfamily of Lamprophiidae before being recognized as its own family. Its best known member, the Montpellier snake, Malpolon monspessulanus, points to a range centered on the Mediterranean and Africa. A specific total species count and a fuller range description were not established from this pass and are left as a gap for the depth wave.
