Pseudaspididae

Pseudaspididae is a small family of elapoid snakes formally described by Cope in 1893, containing only two species, each in its own monotypic genus, from sub-Saharan Africa: Pseudaspis cana, the mole snake, and Pythonodipsas carinata, the western keeled snake. Both were formerly treated as part of Lamprophiidae before being placed in their own family, though some taxonomists still debate the split. Asian mock vipers, once grouped with this family, have since been moved into their own family, Psammodynastidae.
