It spans the genus Araucaria, including the monkey puzzle tree of Chile and Argentina and the bunya, hoop and Norfolk Island pines of Australia and its Pacific islands, all called pine despite no close relation to the true pines of the family Pinaceae, and the kauris of the genus Agathis, immense, slow-growing New Zealand and Southeast Asian trees historically logged for both timber and resin. It also includes the Wollemi pine, a critically endangered Australian species known from fewer than a hundred wild trees and once thought extinct for millions of years before its rediscovery in 1994.FactsBrowse BySourcesComments (0)Reader Challenges (0)FactsComparisonTaxonomic Rank OrderWell-attested5 1Reproductive ModeWell-attestedSeed-Bearing 2Browse ByAll Araucarias And Kauris (Araucariaceae)Araucarias And Kauris (Araucariaceae)42 entriesAraucarias And Kauris (Araucariaceae)Filter Results42 entriesCommon GroupAllAraucarias And Kauris (Araucariaceae) (42)TaxonomyAllAgathis (12)Araucaria (16)Pinopsida (1)HabitatAllCoral Reef (1)Desert (1)Tropical Rainforest (2)Conservation StatusAllCritically Endangered (5)Endangered (11)Extinct (1)Least Concern (5)Near Threatened (7)Vulnerable (12)EcosystemAllValdivian Temperate Rainforest (1)Population TrendAllStable (1)System (Realm)AllMarine (1)Terrestrial (16)ThreatsAllBiological Resource Use (1)Relationship to PeopleAllInvasive or Introduced Species (2)Living or ExtinctAllYes (31)Where It LivesAllAlgeria (3)Australia (1)Australia (5)Bangladesh (2)Belgium (2)Brazil (5)Colombia (5)Comoros (1)Cyprus (3)East Africa (1)Ecuador (2)Fiji (1)France (2)India (5)Ireland (2)Libya (3)Malaysia (1)Maldives (1)Malta (1)Marshall Islands (1)Mauritius (1)Mexico (5)New Caledonia (11)New Zealand (1)Norway (2)Papua New Guinea (1)Portugal (1)Queensland (2)Seychelles (3)South Africa (3)South America (3)Taiwan (5)Turkey (1)Tuvalu (1)United Kingdom (2)United States (2)Vanuatu (2)BrowseCompareSelect all 42Agathis flavescensConifers and Other Gymnosperms1 linkAgathis kinabaluensisConifers and Other Gymnosperms1 linkAgathis lanceolataConifers and Other Gymnosperms1 linkAgathis lenticulaConifers and Other Gymnosperms1 linkAgathis mooreiConifers and Other Gymnosperms2 linksAgathis silbaeConifers and Other Gymnosperms1 linkAmboina PineConifers and Other GymnospermsAraucaria AraucanaConifers and Other Gymnosperms1 linkAraucaria goroensisConifers and Other Gymnosperms1 linkAraucaria muelleriConifers and Other Gymnosperms1 linkAraucarioxylon arizonicumConifers and Other Gymnosperms2 linksBernier's Columnar AraucariaConifers and Other GymnospermsBlue KauriConifers and Other Gymnosperms1 linkBoise AraucariaConifers and Other GymnospermsBorneo KauriConifers and Other GymnospermsBull KauriConifers and Other Gymnosperms1 linkBunya PineConifers and Other Gymnosperms1 linkCoast AraucariaConifers and Other Gymnosperms1 linkCook PineConifers and Other Gymnosperms2 linksDe Laubenfels' AraucariaConifers and Other Gymnosperms1 linkHoop PineConifers and Other Gymnosperms1 linkHumboldt's AraucariaConifers and Other Gymnosperms1 linkKauriConifers and Other Gymnosperms1 linkKlinki PineConifers and Other GymnospermsMonkey Puzzle TreeConifers and Other Gymnosperms2 linksMount Panie KauriConifers and Other GymnospermsMountain AraucariaConifers and Other Gymnosperms1 linkNarrow-leaf AraucariaConifers and Other Gymnosperms1 linkNew Guinea KauriConifers and Other Gymnosperms1 linkNew Zealand KauriConifers and Other GymnospermsNorfolk Island PineConifers and Other Gymnosperms1 linkPacific KauriConifers and Other Gymnosperms1 linkParana PineConifers and Other Gymnosperms1 linkPiggyback AraucariaConifers and Other GymnospermsQueensland KauriConifers and Other Gymnosperms1 linkRock AraucariaConifers and Other Gymnosperms1 linkRule's AraucariaConifers and Other Gymnosperms1 linkSarawak KauriConifers and Other Gymnosperms1 linkSchmid AraucariaConifers and Other GymnospermsScrub KauriConifers and Other GymnospermsWollemi PineConifers and Other Gymnosperms1 linkWollemiaConifers and Other Gymnosperms1 linkSources1.
