Parachromis managuensis

Parachromis managuensis, known as the jaguar cichlid or managuense cichlid, is a large species of cichlid native to Central American fresh waters from Honduras to Costa Rica, its scientific name recalling Lake Managua in Nicaragua where the original specimen was collected. It is silvery or golden green to purple in color with a black stripe running from the eye to the edge of the gill cover, and males can reach 65 centimeters while females average about 40 centimeters. It is popular in the aquarium trade under names including jaguar cichlid and guapote tigre, and has been introduced beyond its native range to other parts of Central America and to the United States as a food fish, for the aquarium trade, and to control other fish populations, establishing non-native populations in some of those places.
