Home›Reptiles›Everyday Group›Lizards (Lacertilia)GroupLizards (Lacertilia)This group gathers Reptiles subcategory members that are lizards in the broad sense, the general suborder Lacertilia, but that are not geckos, chameleons or monitor lizards, each of which the atlas groups separately for their own greater depth of coverage. It spans true lizards, skinks, iguanas, anoles, agamids and horned lizards, along with a small number of limbless or near-limbless species, the slow worm and the amphisbaenians such as the Iberian worm lizard and checkerboard worm lizard, animals frequently mistaken for snakes or earthworms despite belonging to a distinct lizard lineage. Members here range from the diminutive Texas horned lizard and common wall lizard to large, showy species such as the green iguana, marine iguana and frilled-necked lizard, and include the two living venomous lizard species, the Gila monster and its Mexican relative the Mexican beaded lizard. Most members are quadrupedal, diurnal and insectivorous or omnivorous, though several, including the marine iguana and various skinks, have specialized toward unusual diets or habitats.FactsLizards (Lacertilia)SourcesComments (0)Reader Challenges (0)FactsComparisonTaxonomic Rank OrderWell-attested5 1Reproductive ModeWell-attestedOviparous (Egg-Laying) 2Lizards (Lacertilia)Filter Results32 entriesCommon GroupAllLizards (Lacertilia) (32)TaxonomyAllAgamidae (5)Anguidae (2)Brachylophus (1)Corytophanidae (1)Cyclura (1)Helodermatidae (2)Iguana (1)Iguanidae (1)Lacertidae (2)Phrynosomatidae (2)Sauromalus (1)Scincidae (4)Squamata (5)Teiidae (1)HabitatAllDesert (1)Intertidal Zone (1)River (1)Savanna (1)Temperate Forest (1)Conservation StatusAllCritically Endangered (2)Endangered (1)Least Concern (23)Near Threatened (2)Vulnerable (1)EcosystemAllGalapagos (1)Heath (1)Mojave Desert (1)Sonoran Desert (1)DietAllHerbivore (3)Omnivore (3)System (Realm)AllMarine (2)Terrestrial (12)ThreatsAllInvasive and Other Problematic Species, Genes and Diseases (1)Relationship to PeopleAllInvasive or Introduced Species (4)Kept as Pets (2)Living or ExtinctAllYes (31)Where It LivesAllAfrica (3)Antigua and Barbuda (1)Argentina (1)Australia (10)Bahamas (2)Belgium (7)Belize (1)Brazil (2)Canada (1)Colombia (2)Costa Rica (1)Denmark (2)Dominica (1)Dominican Republic (1)Ecuador (2)Fiji (1)France (5)Greece (1)Haiti (1)Indonesia (1)Ireland (1)Israel (1)Japan (2)Kazakhstan (1)Kyrgyzstan (1)Liechtenstein (1)Luxembourg (3)Mexico (10)Netherlands (1)North America (11)Norway (4)Peru (1)Poland (2)Saint Kitts and Nevis (3)Saint Lucia (1)Singapore (1)South Africa (6)South America (3)South Asia (3)Spain (1)Sweden (2)Ukraine (1)United Arab Emirates (1)United Kingdom (1)United States (7)Uruguay (1)Venezuela (1)BrowseCompareSelect all 32American Five-lined SkinkLizards (Lacertilia)Argentine Black and White TeguLizards (Lacertilia)Basiliscus PlumifronsLizards (Lacertilia)Basilisk LizardLizards (Lacertilia)Bearded DragonLizards (Lacertilia)Brown AnoleLizards (Lacertilia)Checkerboard worm lizardLizards (Lacertilia)Chlamydosaurus KingiiLizards (Lacertilia)Common Wall LizardLizards (Lacertilia)Draco VolansLizards (Lacertilia)Eastern Blue-tongued SkinkLizards (Lacertilia)Eastern Fence LizardLizards (Lacertilia)Eastern Glass LizardLizards (Lacertilia)Fiji Crested IguanaLizards (Lacertilia)Flying Dragon LizardLizards (Lacertilia)Frilled-neck LizardLizards (Lacertilia)Frilled-necked LizardLizards (Lacertilia)Gila MonsterLizards (Lacertilia)Green AnoleLizards (Lacertilia)Green IguanaLizards (Lacertilia)Iberian Worm LizardLizards (Lacertilia)Knight AnoleLizards (Lacertilia)Lygosoma quadrupesLizards (Lacertilia)Marine IguanaLizards (Lacertilia)Mexican Beaded LizardLizards (Lacertilia)Rhinoceros IguanaLizards (Lacertilia)Sand LizardLizards (Lacertilia)Sauromalus sleviniLizards (Lacertilia)Slow WormLizards (Lacertilia)Terror skinkLizards (Lacertilia)Texas Horned LizardLizards (Lacertilia)Thorny DevilLizards (Lacertilia)Sources1.
