Pontederia crassipes, commonly known as common water hyacinth and formerly classified as Eichhornia crassipes, is an aquatic plant native to South America that has naturalized throughout the world and is often invasive outside its native range; in Bengal it has anecdotally earned the nickname terror of Bengal for its aggressive growth.
