The planarian Dugesia is a freshwater example, a carnivore or scavenger usually under a centimeter long with a much simpler life history than the parasitic flukes. The marine polyclads are the largest free-living flatworms, sometimes reaching 15 centimeters, and take their name from a highly branched digestive cavity. Flatworms have no body cavity and must respire by diffusion, so no cell can be far from the outside and the body has to stay flat. All Free-Living FlatwormsSourcesComments (0)Reader Challenges (0)All Free-Living FlatwormsFilter Results3 entriesCommon GroupAllFree-Living Flatworms (3)TaxonomyAllPlatyhelminthes (3)HabitatAllFreshwater (1)Intertidal Zone (1)Lake (1)River (1)Conservation StatusAllNot Evaluated (2)EcosystemAllGreat Barrier Reef (1)Everyday GroupAllFree-Living Flatworms (3)DietAllCarnivore (2)System (Realm)AllFreshwater (1)Marine (1)Terrestrial, Freshwater and Marine (1)Relationship to PeopleAllInvasive or Introduced Species (1)No Significant Interaction with Humans (1)Living or ExtinctAllYes (1)Where It LivesAllAustralia (1)Austria (1)Belgium (1)Brazil (1)Canada (1)Czechia (1)France (1)Germany (1)Guam (1)Indonesia (1)Iraq (1)Ireland (1)Italy (1)Mexico (1)Netherlands (1)Norway (1)Papua New Guinea (1)Poland (1)Portugal (1)Romania (1)Slovenia (1)Switzerland (1)United Kingdom (1)United States (1)Uruguay (1)Show ResultsBrowseCompareSelect all 3Girardia tigrinaRoundworms and FlatwormsPersian Carpet FlatwormRoundworms and FlatwormsPlanarianRoundworms and FlatwormsSourcesUC Museum of Paleontology: Introduction to the PlatyhelminthesUC Museum of PaleontologyIntroduction to the PlatyhelminthesQuote, Introduction to the PlatyhelminthesPlanarians are free-living flatworms, and have a much simpler life history.View the SourcePlanarian (Wikipedia)Has Member: Planarian, LeadQuote, Has Member: Planarian, LeadA planarian (also known as a triclad; plural planarians or planaria) is a free-living flatworm of the order Tricladida.View the SourceGirardia tigrina (Wikipedia)Has Member: Girardia tigrina, LeadQuote, Has Member: Girardia tigrina, LeadGirardia tigrina, known as the brown planarian or the immigrant triclad flatworm, is a species of dugesiid native to the Americas.View the SourceWikipedia: Pseudobiceros bedforditier 2WikipediaHas Member: Persian Carpet Flatworm, LeadQuote, Has Member: Persian Carpet Flatworm, LeadPseudobiceros bedfordi (common names Persian carpet flatworm and Bedford's flatworm) is a species of flatworm in the family Pseudocerotidae.View the SourceComments (0)No comments yet.
