Yeast

Fungi

Saccharomyces cerevisiae, also known as brewer's yeast or baker's yeast, is a species of yeast that has been used in winemaking, baking and brewing since ancient times, and is believed to have originally been isolated from the skin of grapes. It is one of the most intensively studied eukaryotic model organisms in molecular and cell biology, playing a role comparable to that of the bacterium Escherichia coli, and it is the microorganism responsible for many familiar forms of fermentation. Its round to oval cells, typically 5 to 10 micrometers across, reproduce by budding.
