Malagasy giant chameleon

Reptiles

The Malagasy giant chameleon, Furcifer oustaleti, also known as Oustalet's chameleon, is a large chameleon native throughout Madagascar and introduced near Nairobi in Kenya and in Miami-Dade County in the United States. It occurs in a range of habitats, including degraded vegetation within villages, though it is relatively uncommon inside primary forest. Large adult males can reach 68.5 centimeters in total length, generally making it the largest chameleon species by this measurement, and weigh 400 to 500 grams, while females stay considerably smaller, up to about 40 centimeters. Males are usually grey or brownish, while females show more varied coloration, sometimes including red, yellow, and green markings, and the species is assessed as Least Concern by the IUCN.
