The lined seahorse, also called the northern seahorse or spotted seahorse, is a fish in the family Syngnathidae found in the western Atlantic Ocean from Cape Cod south to the Caribbean, Mexico and Venezuela, growing to about 15 centimetres and living one to four years. A weak swimmer that ambushes minute crustaceans and brine shrimp by blending into its surroundings, it swims upright using its dorsal and pectoral fins and can move each eye independently to scan for prey and threats. It is monogamous, performing daily ritual dances to reaffirm its pair bond, and like other seahorses the male is the caregiver, carrying fertilized eggs in a brood pouch for about three weeks before releasing the young; habitat loss from coastal development and pollution, along with use in the aquarium trade and Chinese medicine, have left it classified as vulnerable.

Description
The lined seahorse was first named Hippocampus Erectus by George Perry in 1810.
Conservation
The lined seahorse species was listed as vulnerable since 1996 and was listed as vulnerable in the 2003 IUCN assessment.
Description, coloration
They have a broad color spectrum, ranging from black, grey, brown, and green, to orange, red, and yellow.
threat (MediaWiki batch-API article extract states it plainly)
The habitat of the lined seahorse is diminishing due to coastal growth and pollution, which ultimately is the cause of the decreasing population.
system (MediaWiki batch-API article extract states it plainly)
The lined seahorse lives in the western Atlantic Ocean as far north as Cape Cod and as far south as the Caribbean, Mexico, and Venezuela.
Lead section
Lined seahorses feed mainly on minute crustaceans and brine shrimp, which they suck in through their snout.
