The corn bunting is a passerine bird in the bunting family Emberizidae, described as a large bunting with heavily streaked buff-brown plumage; males and females look similar, though males are around 20 percent larger. It measures 16 to 19 centimeters long, with a conspicuously dark eye, yellowish mandibles, grey-brown streaked upperparts, whitish underparts, distinctively dark and white-tipped lesser wing coverts, and a plain brown tail. Its range extends from western Europe and north Africa across to northwestern China, including the Canary Islands, Turkey, the Caucasus, northern Iran and the Middle East, with some populations migrating south in winter. Males produce a repetitive, metallic song often likened to jangling keys, and the IUCN lists the species as Least Concern.
