Attelabidae is a widespread family of weevils in the order Coleoptera, commonly known as leaf-rolling weevils, and considered among the more primitive weevils because of their straight antennae inserted near the base of the rostrum. The related family Rhynchitidae is sometimes instead treated as its subfamily Rhynchitinae. Some members, notably Trachelophorus giraffa, have unusually long necks and are called giraffe weevils, and a few species are minor agricultural pests. Larvae of the subfamily Rhynchitinae feed in flower buds, fruits and terminal shoots or mine leaves, while the true leaf-rollers of the subfamily Attelabinae have females that cut slits into leaves and roll the cut portion around their eggs for the larvae to feed inside.
