The horned marsupial frog is a Central and South American rainforest frog, family Hemiphractidae, named for the small horn like peak above each eye and for the female's brooding pouch, a patch of skin on her lower back where fertilized eggs develop directly into froglets with no free swimming tadpole stage. Its skin color shifts from pale brown by night to darker brown by day.
