Bombina Orientalis

Amphibians

The Oriental fire-bellied toad, Bombina orientalis, is a small semiaquatic frog species found in northeastern Asia, dwelling mainly in slow-moving bodies of water and temperate forests. Despite its name it is not a true toad; its green and black, tubercle-covered skin gives it a toadlike appearance, and mild toxins excreted through its skin are advertised by its vibrant underbelly. Though common throughout much of its range and rated least concern by the IUCN despite a declining population, it is widely kept as a pet and used in scientific research on behavior, vocalization and learning.
