The natterjack toad is a toad native to sandy and heathland areas of Europe. Adults measure 60 to 70 millimetres in length and are distinguished from common toads by a yellow line down the middle of the back and by parallel paratoid glands, and their relatively short legs give them a distinctive gait rather than the hopping movement of many other toads. Natterjacks have a very loud, distinctive mating call amplified by a single vocal sac beneath the male's chin.
