Hadal Zone

Marine and Coastal Biomes

The hadal zone is the deepest region of the ocean, made up of narrow, V shaped trenches that plunge from about six to eleven kilometers below sea level. Despite covering less than a quarter of one percent of the world's seafloor, these trenches account for more than forty percent of the ocean's total depth range, and most of the forty six known hadal habitats lie in the Pacific Ocean. The zone is defined by total darkness, hydrostatic pressure exceeding eleven hundred atmospheres, near freezing cold and severe nutrient scarcity. Even so, researchers have documented more than four hundred species living in hadal trenches, many carrying physiological adaptations found nowhere else, built to withstand pressure and cold that would overwhelm life from shallower waters.

Facts

Annual Precipitation (mm)
0
This biome is the ocean's deepest trench floors, roughly 6,000 to 11,000 meters down, with no atmospheric contact whatsoever. The surface-blended precipitation figure used on the Marine, Open Ocean, Neritic Zone and Coral Reef biome entities has no physical meaning at trench-floor depth, so 0mm is recorded as the physically honest figure rather than reusing that surface convention here.
Climate
Typical Low Temperature (C)
1 1
Sourced to the subject's own accountSource states the hadal zone water temperature is usually between 1 and 4 degrees Celsius; 1C is the lower bound of that range.
Typical High Temperature (C)

Sourced to the subject's own accountSource states the hadal zone water temperature is usually between 1 and 4 degrees Celsius; 4C is the upper bound of that range.

They are found in almost all aquatic environments, from fresh water to water with twice the salinity of sea water and even in the Challenger Deep, the deepest known point in the ocean.
