Synodontis petricola, sometimes called the pygmy leopard catfish, is a species of upside-down catfish endemic to Lake Tanganyika, found in the parts of the lake bordering Burundi, Zambia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Tanzania. It was first described in 1959 by the Belgian ichthyologist Hubert Matthes. Its species name, petricola, combines the Latin petra, meaning stone or rock, with cola, meaning inhabitant, referring to the rocky habitat where the species is found.
