Anchiornis huxleyi

Anchiornis huxleyi is a species of small, four-winged paravian dinosaur from the Late Jurassic, about 160.9 to 160.3 million years ago, known from fossils found in the Tiaojishan Formation of Liaoning, China, with the type specimen recovered from Jianchang County. It was a small bipedal theropod about the size of a crow, with a triangular skull, feathered forelimbs and hindlimbs, and a body covered in feather types ranging from complex vaned feathers on the wings to simple down over most of the body; the holotype measured 34 centimeters long and weighed 110 grams, while larger specimens reached 60 to 62 centimeters. It is notable as the first Mesozoic dinosaur species for which almost the entire life appearance could be determined, providing important evidence about the transition between dinosaurs and birds.
