The bushveld rain frog is a rotund, short limbed burrowing frog of southern Africa's savannas, family Brevicipitidae, that is a poor jumper and mostly walks or digs rather than leaps. When threatened it inflates its body to appear larger and harder to swallow, and its entire life cycle, from egg to froglet, takes place underground in a burrow with no free swimming tadpole stage.
