Triatoma infestans, known locally as winchuka or vinchuca in Argentina, Bolivia, Uruguay and Chile, as barbeiro in Brazil and as chipo in Venezuela, and in English as a kissing bug or barber bug, is a blood sucking bug and the most important vector of Trypanosoma cruzi, the parasite that causes Chagas disease. It is widespread across the Southern Cone countries of South America, a region covered by a control program called the Southern Cone Initiative, coordinated by the Pan American Health Organization.
