Pebas Stubfoot Toad (Atelopus spumarius)

The Pebas stubfoot toad is a species of true toad in the family Bufonidae native to Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guyana, Peru, and Suriname, where it lives in rainforest near blackwater streams such as the Tahuayo River. It has a narrow, pointed head and smooth dorsal skin patterned with pale green and black stripes and black dots, and unlike many toads it lacks visible eardrums. The species shows a marked size difference between the sexes, with females measuring 31 to 39 millimeters and males a smaller 26 to 29 millimeters. It is assessed as vulnerable by the IUCN.
