Linyphia triangularis

Arachnids

Linyphia triangularis is a species of sheet weaver spider in the family Linyphiidae, first described by Carl Alexander Clerck in 1758. It grows to about 6 millimeters in length, with a pale brown carapace marked by darker edges and a central line, and an abdomen carrying a coarsely serrated brown band on a white background. The species is abundant throughout Europe in low vegetation, where it spins horizontal sheet webs and uses barrage lines strung above the web to knock flying prey down onto it. It was introduced to the state of Maine in the United States, first recorded there in 1983, and has since spread through most of the state's counties.
