Black House Spider is a common spider native to Australia that has also become established in New Zealand and Japan, living both outdoors on rough-barked trees and indoors in building corners and around windows and doorways. Females grow to 18 millimeters in body length with a leg span of about 30 millimeters and dark brown to black coloring, building messy webs with funnel-shaped silk retreats where they remain for life; though venomous, the species is considered non-dangerous, with bites causing only localized pain and swelling.
