Canid Genera

This group gathers Mammal Genera subcategory members belonging to the dog family, Canidae, built for endurance pursuit rather than the cat family's short ambush rush, with non-retractable claws, a longer muzzle adapted for a strong sense of smell, and in most genera a social pack structure built around cooperative hunting and pup rearing. It spans the genus Canis (wolf, coyote, golden and other jackals), the fox genus Vulpes, the African wild dog's own genus Lycaon, the Asian dhole's genus Cuon, the raccoon dog genus Nyctereutes, the maned wolf's genus Chrysocyon, the bat-eared fox's genus Otocyon, and several South American genera such as Cerdocyon, Lycalopex and the bush dog's genus Speothos, together spanning every inhabited continent except Antarctica.
