Eupleridae (Malagasy Carnivoran) Genera

This group gathers Mammal Genera subcategory members belonging to the family Eupleridae, the entire native carnivoran fauna of Madagascar, a single lineage that radiated in isolation to fill the ecological roles cats, civets and mongooses play elsewhere. It spans the fossa, genus Cryptoprocta, the island's largest predator and superficially cat-like despite being a close relative of the mongoose family, the Malagasy civet's genus Fossa, the ring-tailed and Malagasy brown-tailed vontsira genera Galidia and Salanoia, the narrow-striped and broad-striped vontsiras of the genera Mungotictis and Galidictis, and the falanouc's own genus Eupleres, a specialized worm and invertebrate eater. All seven genera here are found nowhere outside Madagascar.
