Mustelid Genera

This group gathers Mammal Genera subcategory members belonging to the weasel family, Mustelidae, the largest family in the order Carnivora by number of living genera, built around a characteristically long, low-slung body and, in most genera, scent glands used for marking and defense. It spans the true weasels, stoats and minks of the genus Mustela, the otters, split across several genera including the sea otter's own genus Enhydra and the giant otter's genus Pteronura, the badgers, split across the American genus Taxidea and the Old World genera Meles, Arctonyx and Melogale, the martens and fisher of the genera Martes and Pekania, the wolverine's genus Gulo, the honey badger's genus Mellivora, and a further scatter of grison, polecat, zorilla and marbled polecat genera across Africa, Asia and the Americas.
