Estrildidae

Estrildidae is a family of small, seed-eating passerine birds of the Old World tropics and Australasia, known by names including munias, mannikins, firefinches, parrotfinches and waxbills. The family contains 138 species in 39 genera, ranging from 8.3 to 17 centimeters long, and shows considerable variation in plumage despite sharing similar structure and behavior. They are gregarious, often colonial seed-eaters with short, thick, pointed bills, and most need warm tropical habitats, though some Australian species have adapted to cooler conditions.
