Neosittidae

Neosittidae, the sittellas, is a small family of Australasian passerine birds containing three species in the single genus Daphoenositta: the black sittella and Papuan sittella of New Guinea, and the varied sittella of Australia. These small birds, 10 to 14 centimeters long and weighing 8 to 20 grams, have thin, pointed, down-curved bills used to extricate insects from bark. They resemble the unrelated nuthatches in appearance and habit, but differ in nesting on branches rather than in tree cavities. Sittellas are highly social, usually found in groups of five or more, and are sedentary rather than migratory.
