Bird Genera

Cissa is a genus of relatively short-tailed green magpies, sometimes called hunting cissas, in the crow family Corvidae, comprising four species found in forests of tropical and subtropical Southeast Asia and adjacent regions from the lower Himalayas through mainland Southeast Asia to Borneo, Sumatra and Java. They are carnivorous, feeding mainly on arthropods and small vertebrates, and typically show bright red bills, primarily green plumage, a black mask and rufous wings, though captive birds fed a low-carotenoid diet often appear blue or turquoise instead. The genus was introduced by Friedrich Boie in 1826, with the common green magpie as its type species.
