Zavattariornis

Zavattariornis is a monotypic genus in the crow family Corvidae containing a single species, the Ethiopian bushcrow, a starling-like bird about 28 centimetres long and weighing 130 grams, bluish-grey overall shading to nearly white on the forehead, with a creamy-white throat and chest, glossy black tail and wings, and bare mobile azure skin around the eye. It is endemic to a restricted area of central-southern Ethiopia, confined to thorn acacia country near Yavello, Mega and Arero across roughly 2,400 square kilometres of flat savanna with mature acacia and Commiphora thornbush between 1,300 and 1,800 metres elevation, and is assessed as Endangered, with fewer than 10,000 individuals estimated in 2007 and ongoing threats from habitat loss and climate vulnerability.
