The northern lapwing (Vanellus vanellus), also known as the peewit or green plover among other names, is a bird in the lapwing subfamily common through temperate Eurosiberia. It was first described by Carl Linnaeus in 1758 as Tringa vanellus, and the genus Vanellus was established in 1760; it is a monotypic species with no recognized subspecies. It is assessed as Near Threatened by the IUCN and has held Red List conservation status in the United Kingdom since 2009.
