Leyland Cypress is a fast-growing coniferous tree that arose as a hybrid between Monterey Cypress and Nootka Cypress. It can reach a height of about 15 meters in only 16 years, and its dense, rapid growth makes it a popular choice for hedging and screening in landscaping, though its height and shade have also caused disputes between neighboring property owners; the tree is almost always sterile and does not reproduce naturally from seed, so it is propagated mainly by cuttings.
