The Monterey pine, Pinus radiata, also called insignis pine or radiata pine, is a species of pine in the family Pinaceae native to a small range on the Central Coast of California and the Guadalupe and Cedros islands of Mexico. Despite its narrow natural range, it has become one of the most widely planted commercial timber trees in the world, especially in New Zealand, Chile, Australia and Spain, where fast-growing plantations far outproduce the wild native stands.
