The Sally Lightfoot crab is a brightly colored red, orange, and yellow crab found on rocky shores throughout the tropical and subtropical eastern Pacific, including the Galapagos Islands, where it is one of the most conspicuous animals along the coastline. It is an agile, fast-moving scavenger, able to leap between rocks and skitter across surfaces to avoid crashing waves and predators, and it grazes on algae as well as scavenging dead animal matter. Juveniles are typically dark and cryptically colored, becoming more vividly patterned as they mature.
