Varroa Mite

The Varroa mite, Varroa destructor, is a species of parasitic mite that feeds on the fat reserves of honeybees, originally native to Asian honeybee populations before spreading worldwide as a devastating pest of the European honeybee, the species most commonly kept for commercial beekeeping and crop pollination. It weakens and can kill entire honeybee colonies both directly and by transmitting viral diseases between bees, and it is considered one of the most significant threats to global beekeeping and the crop pollination services honeybees provide.
