Triops cancriformis

Triops cancriformis, the European tadpole shrimp, is a species of tadpole shrimp found from Europe to the Middle East and India, growing up to about 6 centimeters in captivity and up to 11 centimeters in the wild. Habitat destruction has caused many populations to be lost across its European range, and the species is considered endangered in the United Kingdom and in several other European countries; in the UK only two populations remain, and it is legally protected there under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. Genetic evidence indicates the species diverged from other Triops species roughly 23.7 to 49.6 million years ago.
